RESTERÖDS TRIKÅFABRIK
The circular knitting machines at Resteröds Trikåfabrik have recently celebrated their 70th birthday. Eventhough they are a part of Swedish industrial history they produce tricot in a higher quality than most modern super fast circular knitting machines. Actually, this is the key to the success of the tricot from Resteröds, the low knitting tempo.
The difference in quality is noticeable in various ways. One way is to measure it in ounces. Resteröds Trikåfabrik produces tricot that weighs 4.72 ounces. The result are clothes that do not shrink or twist and have a natural stretch making them unusually comfortable to wear. It has even been said among swedish customers that the tricot from Resteröds Trikåfabrik has en average life span of 20 years.
An interesting fact is that the old knitting machines are completely manual. Each machine has 52 different levers and knobs that are finetuned hourly by the factory manager, åke Hermansson. He personally measures and approves each batch of tricot to weigh exactly 4.72 ounces. He also repairs the machines by hand, replaces any broken needles, refills the yarn, dusts, and gives his loving tender care to all twelve of his machines. That is the secret behind the appreciated tricot from Resteröds Trikåfabrik. Twelve circular knitting machines from the early 30’s that still deliver tricot in a unique quality together with the craftsmanship that come from over 70 years of devoted work.
It all began in 1935 when the Mattson brothers, from the small village of Resteröd, invested their savings in a pair of used circular knitting machines from G.”Stibbe” Ltd, in England. The brothers then designed a collection of men’s and women’s underwear, long underpants and linen. A shed in the back yard became the first factory building. That is how Resteröds Trikåfabrik was born. Due to the incomparable quality of the tricot their clothes became so loved by the Swedish people that the brothers needed to expand their business.
More circular knitting machines were bought and the production moved to the nearby rural town of Ljungskile. Since that day practically nothing has changed at Resteröds Trikåfabrik.
The original collection has remained untouched for almost 70 years. That is how appreciated it is. In fact the tricot is still knit by the very same machines that once stood in the shed at the Mattson residence.
Today, Resteröds Trikåfabrik proudly presents an entirely new collection. Tricot with the same classic swedish top-quality as ever, in a brand new design.
